Day 11 – Outline Your Life

“The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, learn about them or even seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them” – Denis Waitley

This quote, by the author of “Seeds of Greatness” and “The Psychology of Winning,” really sums up what we are doing in this 12 day Life Appraisal program. In these last two days, we’ll begin to take all that we’ve learned about ourselves and our true desires and goals, and outline what we are going to do over the next 1-3 years in each area of our life or in our life overall.

For each outline, create a title as a positive affirmation statement or a How-to article title. For example, if you are outlining your career area, and you’ve created your vision of where you see yourself in three years, as a National Sales Manager, your statement might be “How I went from a part-time sales rep to a top 10 National Sales Manager in just three years!” or “I am a top 10 National Sales Manager” or “My career as a top 10 National Sales Manager.”   Pick a style that fits you.

Next, you can review your folder or notebook section, as needed, but by now you may have a very clear picture of your path to success. If it’s been a while since you’ve written an outline, here is a sample outline.

I.  Year One – increase sales from avg 2 per week to 4 per week by Dec 31 to become full time sales rep

A.  Attend sales trainings

1.  seminar in New York, April 10

2.  workshop at office June 5

B.  Get more Referrals

1. call all current clients, check in with them, ask for referral

a. give a thank you for referrals – or develop a referral bonus

b. follow up every referral within 48-72 hours

II. Year Two – Move up to top 10 Sales Manager by Dec 31

III. Year Three – Move up to top 10 National Sales Manager by Dec 31

Of course, you’d fill in many more details than my simple sample above 🙂  Hopefully, this will get you started. You can create an outline for each folder or section of your notebook, just one or two, or create one general outline. This is your process – you choose what fits for you now. Later you may decide to do one for each!

The objective with this step is to help you recognize that while, no you can’t control everything that happens in your life, if you have a vision and a plan, then you are better able to respond to those things you can’t control and it will be so much easier to make decisions in your daily life because you know where you want to go and how you might get there!
